Synaptic Gesture Suite incorporates many useful features for users to interact with their machines via touchpads. Out of the many features offered - the most important, at least to me, is Chiral Scrolling.
As the official description says: “Place one finger on the “target” zone (the right side of the TouchPad to scroll up or down, the lower edge of the TouchPad to scroll left or right). Slide finger in the desired direction of scrolling and begin making a circular motion. Gesture ends when finger is lifted from TouchPad.”
This useful features is available in some versions of Synaptic drivers or for some unknown reason, Chiral Scrolling option does not show up as you go to the mouse properties in control panel. So if you are habitual of using Chiral Scrolling and recently updated Synaptic driver then chances are that you may not find the option to enable Chiral Scrolling.
Here we will tell you how to manually enable it with a simple registry tweak and everything will work like a charm.
So to enable Chiral Scrolling options in Windows 8, simply follow these steps:
Step 1: Open registry editor by typing regedit in Run Dialogue Box (Windows + R).
Step 2: Navigate to the following path:
Step 3: Look for the DWORD value named as Visibility and change its value to 2.
That’s all you need to do from the registry editor. Now simply restart your computer before moving ahead. Now that we have enabled the Chiral Scrolling option from Registry, you will need to activate it from the mouse options.
To do that, go to windows control panel and open mouse settings. Click on the Device Settings tab and you should see the following windows. Here either double click on Synaptics LuxPad or select it and click Properties.
In the newly opened window, you will see the features that Synaptic offers for touchpad. Here click on the box before Scrolling and there you will see a Settings Icon appearing right next to its name.
Click on the settings icon and then you will see the Scrolling options. There you will find the settings to enable Chiral Scrolling. Simply check the box and you are good to go.
It depends which version of Synaptics Driver you are using. Some versions have native support so you don’t have to go through registry editing steps. Simply follow the second part of the tutorial to enable this option. But if you are one of those who do not find and Chiral Scrolling option in their Synaptics Device Properties then first do the required registry changes to make this option visible.
